Travel insurance

Description

This article explains who is covered by the Diocese’s travel insurance, what the policy includes, and how to declare a trip or make a claim.

Overview

The Anglican Diocese of Adelaide (the Synod) provides travel insurance for Directors, Officers,Employees, Voluntary Workers, Lay Ministers, Students, and Contract Workers who travel for ministry or work-related purposes.

This is a blanket policy, but you must advise the Synod of any planned travel before departure. The Travel Declaration Form can be found below.

Eligibility

  • The travel policy covers the following groups:
  • Directors, Officers, Employees, Voluntary Workers, Lay Ministers, Students, and Contract Workers
  • (This includes executive and non-executive directors, board members, consultants, contractors, subcontractors, volunteers, work experience participants, and self- employed persons working on behalf of the Synod. Section 11 – Extra Territorial Workers Comp is excluded.)
  • Incidental private travel immediately before or after the business travel
  • Private travel for Directors, Officers, and Executives, including declared family members (excluding regular commuting)
  • Spouse/Partner and accompanying Dependent Children
  • (Includes dependent children under 19, or under 25 if they’re full-time students and mainly financially dependent, and children with mental or physical disabilities who can’t support themselves)

Extent of cover

Note: This is a summary only. All coverage is subject to the terms, conditions, and exclusions of the policy.

Section 1: Personal Accident and Sickness

You are covered if you suffer an injury or illness while on an approved journey that leads to specific listed events within 12 months of:

  • the date of the injury, or
  • the first appearance of the illness

You’ll be paid according to the benefit schedule.

 

Important: If you have a pre-existing condition, please contact the Synod Office or AIRS

(the Diocese’s insurance broker) before you travel.

  • Section 3: Hijack and Detention
  • Section 4: Medical, Evacuation, and Additional Expenses
  • Section 5: Assistance and Security Advice (via Chubb)
  • Section 6: Cancellation and Disruption
  • Covers cancelled or interrupted journeys due to serious illness, injury, death, or damage to home/business property
  • You may be reimbursed for unused non-refundable expenses or necessary extra travel/accommodation costs

Definition of a journey

Journey means a trip undertaken on the business of the policyholder and/or authorised by thePolicyholder provided such travel involves a destination 50 kilometres or more from the covered person’s home or normal place of business.

It starts from the time a covered person leaves their home or normal place of business, whichever isleft last and continue on a full-time 24-hour basis until the covered person returns to their Home or normal place of business, whichever occurs first.

The maximum duration of any one trip is 180 days.

The journey doesn’t include normal commuting between the Covered Person’s Home and

normal place of business.

Can I travel to dangerous locations?

Travel to some countries may not be covered (e.g. Afghanistan, Chechnya, Iraq, Somalia). If you’re unsure, contact the Synod Office or AIRS before booking.
